Spencer Slade Wins Washtenaw Golf Association Championship.
Saturday, Sept. 8 Spencer Slade won his second WGA Championship shooting a 139 (72-67) score of 5 under par at Washtenaw Country Club. He beat 5 time WGA Champion Mike Ignasiak by three shots. Mike shot 142 (71-71). The tournament field is comprised of the best players in the county determined by an Honor Roll system the looks at players finishes in state, national, and Wastenaw events. Washtenaw has developed into a hotbed of golfing talent and has many of the best amateur players in the state.
Slade, a 23 year old Saline native and EMU student and collegiate golfer, took the lead over Ignasiak the first nine of the afternoon round when he fired a 33. Ignasiak, a former UM and Milwaukee Brewers pitcher, does not give in easily and kept the match close until the final few holes.
Steve Fedewa and Taylor Jackson tied for third with scores of 149. Charlie Green, the lone high school qualifier, finished tie for 5th with Adam White. Mark Mann, the Ann Arbor City Senior Champion, who recently qualified for the USGA National Senior Championship, shot 153.
