Jeppeson Ends Amateur Career with Win at Washtenaw Golf Association Championship.
Marty Jeppeson won the Washtenaw Golf Association Championship shooting a pair of 67s at Barton Hills on Saturday. This win is his last amateur event and culminates one of the best years in the history of Michigan amateur golf. Marty, a former Saline H.S. and EMU player, won the Horton Smith, the GAM Championship, and won GAM honor roll points for his play in the U.S. Amateur, the U.S. Open qualifier, and the Michigan Open.
Jeppeson’s (67-67) 134 won the Washenaw Golf Association Championship defeating Casey Baker by 5 shots despite the fact that Baker shot a very solid (69-70) 139. Marty’s pair of 67s was fabulous golf on the 7,000 yard Barton Hills course. His rounds had 11 birdies and one eagle.
Marty Jeppeson’s plans are to compete on the North Carolina Hooter’s Tour this fall and then move to a Florida mini-tour in the winter. He is clearly one of the better pro prospects to come out of Michigan.
The field for this year’s Washtenaw Golf Association Championship was limited to the best 12 players in the county based upon honor roll points for play in national, state, and local competition. Washtenaw County is a hotbed for amateur golf with probably the strongest contingent of local players in the state.
