It’s fairly evident just by looking at the Cobra Baffler XL driver that the club is designed to be as easy to hit as possible. The oversized club face, visually recognizable perimeter weighting, and offset design all give tremendous confidence that drives can fly farther and straighter than before.
The Baffler XL driver is replacing the AMP Cell Offset driver that Cobra offered in 2013. In today’s market, Baffler XL will be the only proline driver to feature a full offset design which means that golfers who continue to struggle with a slice will have a remarkably efficient driver to consider when looking for a new club. In general, driver performance over the past few years has shown that a full offset design can have a larger effect in reducing a fade or slice than some of the adjustable drivers. Additionally, weighting on the sole has been reconfigured to improve moment of inertia (MOI). Weight has been pushed lower and farther back to make the Baffler XL even more forgiving and longer distance than AMP Cell Offset.
A second improved feature on the Baffler XL driver is the increased club face size. Cobra’s E9 Face Technology is back which promotes faster ball speeds across the entire club face (think of a 3 by 3 grid, like a tic-tac-toe board, as the 9 different points) and incorporated a whopping 5000 mm2 face size! By adding more surface area, Cobra has designed a club that boasts added forgiveness on mis-hits and improved performance on solid shots by created a more reactive “trampoline-effect” across the face.
The following shot data was gathered from a recent testing event we conducted at Miles of Golf. You can see that the Baffler XL driver is competitive with non-offset drivers in ball speed and distance but can greatly affect a player’s dispersion relative to the target (dispersion).
Ball Speed (mph) | Launch Angle (degrees) | Spin Rate (rpm) | Total Distance (yds) | Side Dispersion (feet) | |
Cobra Baffler XL | 150.5 mph | 12.4 deg | 2205 rpm | 271.0 yds | 3.0 ft Right |
Cobra Bio Cell | 151.4 mph | 10.7 deg | 2388 rpm | 270.2 yds | 43.4 ft Right |
The Cobra Baffler XL driver is available now in various lofts: 9.5, 10.5, 11.5 and 15 (ladies only) degrees. The stock shaft offers flexes ranging from ladies to stiff with weights of 50 to 65 grams depending on flex. Going through a club fitting in The Cluboratory at Miles of Golf is a great way to test and find the best combination of loft, length, shaft flex and more for your new Baffler XL driver.
